STEVE PEACHEY

Consultant

Steve has 30+ years of experience in development finance, bridging policy and practice to expand formal financial access for entrepreneurs and women at the intersection of formal and informal economies. After a decade in the UK’s central and retail banking sectors, he transitioned to development finance in the 1990s, working across Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, and East Asia. His focus has been on small-balance savings mobilization and linking group-based savings to formal finance—an approach he believes is as critical to women entrepreneurs’ risk management as credit. Currently, he is working on two key challenges: making public survey data more useful for financial institutions to assess outreach gaps and leveraging blended finance models to help traditionally excluded groups take on productive borrowing. Over the past 15+ years, Steve has supported technical assistance projects worth over $50 million across Africa, East Asia, and Central/South America, alongside policy advisory work and teaching a savings elective at the Boulder Microfinance Training Programme.
